CNE off to another wonderful start

The crowd aboard the Bathurst streetcar was buzzing.  Looking around I saw a nice mix of kids, adults, and seniors all headed for a fun-filled day at the Ex.  Anticipation grew as we got closer and closer to the Princes’ Gates and finally there it was, the CNE.

Nothing beats the joy of bounding through the entrance and anticipating what wonders the Ex will have for us this time. For me it’d be even better.  Having enjoyed the festivities as a customer for so long made me want to give something back this time around.  I became a volunteer Friend of the CNE.

Arriving early gave me a great opportunity to take notes, explore the grounds, and check out the newest additions. Had time to fuel up at the Food Building, which was, as usual, hopping.  It was nice to see the unbeatable classics like $0.99 spaghetti alongside some new vendors.  After a delicious Philly cheesesteak sandwich it was time to get to my post.

My fellow volunteers are a friendly bunch.  We have some veterans who come back every year along with some first-timers that are equally stoked about taking part in the fun.  Time flew by during my first volunteer shift.  I got to meet lots of nice folks, catch an awesome Mardi Gras parade that runs daily, and even hang out with some cool mascots.  The CNE is off to another wonderful start and here’s to wishing her a happy 130th birthday.

About Nicolas

Being an eager CNE fan from a very young age wasn't enough for Nicolas. This year he opted to volunteer at the fair in order to convey his enthusiasm for its charm to all the visitors coming through its gates. Not only that, Nicolas will be providing us with lively CNE anecdotes and updates by way of his position as an official blogger. His favourite CNE activity is visiting the midway and winning enormous stuffed animals.
